As the American lifespan increases, so does the concern for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and mouth, into old age. When you or a loved-one comes to see us for regular check-ups, please remember to let us know if you are taking any new medications or have changed dosage or frequency in medications you have taken long term. Why, you might ask? Several common drugs can cause dry mouth, resulting in tooth decay or disease, so we want to know how to combat that problem. Try to reduce the amount of sugary drinks and foods you consume; this will benefit your teeth and your waistline. Also, remember to brush and floss at least twice a day. If you are not able to squeeze in either, rinse with water to prevent the foods from sticking to your teeth and gums. While you are brushing and flossing, take the time to notate sore spots or irritated areas, and be sure to tell us about them. If you have an irritated place that won’t heal, please contact our office. We’ll take a closer look during your next exam, or we can see you on short notice if you have specific concerns.
